The Ancestors of my Nana - Lilian Adeline White

Warrington Cemetery, Manchester Road, Warrington In 2007 Gwyneth Hansen ( Great Grandaughter of Happy Pitt Cunningham White - the eldest of Henry Brown White and Rosa Carter's children ) went in search of the family grave.   Buried in the family grave are Nana Lilian Adeline's grandparents: Henry Brown White (d. 1906) and Roza White (nee Carter d.1893)  and her two unmarried Aunts:  Violet Ada Francis White (d. 1930) and Lilian Sadler White (d.1939). Gwyneth's only guidance was this photo that Nana Lilian Adeline had that  was taken on the occasion of Lilian Sadler's funeral July 1939 - hence all of the flowers. George Frederick Freeland White 1862 - 1935 Lilian Adeline White's Uncle - Brother to her father Gilbert White Note Freeland was his Mothers maiden name. George was born, educated, worked, married and died in Warrington, UK. Born in September 1862, George was educated at Boteler Grammar School - a very prestigious school founded in 1526. In 1886 he as admitted as a solicitor and was articled to his father's firm Nicholson, White and Nicholson. He served as Assistant Deputy Clerk to the Justices and in 1901 he became Clerk to the Magistrates. In 1902 he was in practice with his brother Edward Aubrey White at 3 Egypt Street, Warrington. He married Dora Bowden in 1904 and together they had three children; Elizabeth, William and Cyril. Lilian Sadler White  1861 - 1939 Lilian Adeline White's Aunt - Sister to her father Gilbert Greenall White Born on 30 March 1861 in Bloomsbury, Middlesex, Lilian was the fourth child of Henry Brown White and Rosa Carter. Lilian Sadler never married and in later years lived with her sister Violet Ada Francis. Violet was one year older than Lilian and also never married; when Violet died in 1930 she left her money to Lilian. This photo was in a beautiful art nouveau style round wooden frame owned by my Nanna Lilian Adeline. In June of 1937 my Nana, Lilian Adeline travelled to Warrington to stay with and care for her "maiden Aunt" and namesake Lilian Sadler.  Nana was 27 at the time and unmarried, Lilian Sadler was 76. We don't know very much about Lilian Sadler's life apart from a few stories that we can recall Nana telling us. Aunt Lilian Sadler had pug dogs and a parrot (see the pictures below), and Nana felt that she treated her more like a servant than a niece. ...

Violet Ada Francis White Lilian Adeline White's Aunt - Sister to her father Gilbert Greenall White Born in November 1859, Violet was the third child of Henry Brown White and Rosa Carter. Violet never married and in later years lived with her younger sister Lilian Sadler who also never married.  When Violet died in November 1930 (just a few days shy of her 71st birthday) she left her money to Lilian. She is buried in the family grave in the Warrington Cemetery. This photo was Nana Adeline White's.  It was take n on the occasion of Lilian Sadler's funeral July 1939 - hence all of the flowers.  This was 9 years after Violet had died.
